Bill Shakes the name was born hundreds of moons ago when I was living in London and working in the Music Industry. At the time I was deeply entrenched in London nightlife and my DJ alter ego required a more interesting moniker than Toby Martin (my name) which always seemed to look flat and pedestrian on an event flyer.. Anyway the bardish nickname proved sticky and has been part of my make-up ever since and is used sparingly for my more creative endeavors be they musically inclined or in the Blogosphere.
I decided to begin this Blog for a number of reasons, some practical, some personal. I wanted to get my hands dirty with the tech side of things to improve my rather average computer skills and building a bespoke Blog lends itself perfectly to learning the ropes while exposing yourself to new technology and ideas. It also provides a perfect platform to develop writing skills and general thinking and analytical processes and in my humble (and shared) opinion Blogs are brain training.
The main emphasis of this blog (after some trial & error) will be music based material.. Said subject being the passion, hobby, mistress that is most likely to extract the best out of me and also allows me to continue to discover and more and more music which is no bad thing and keeps me on my tootsies.
Like most things in life, the more you learn about music, the less you realize you actually know..
