Bill Shakes 10 – Memend

Style wise this mix reminded me of my days as The End’s record label manager (+ many lost nights in the club) hence the title and the robotic monkey image I found on Google somehow seems to suit.  I’ve tended to lean towards the ‘Tech’ (nasty name) side of house music which stood me in good stead at the label although my personal preference is for the slightly warmer emotive side of this genre,  different strokes…

I can just imagine playing this selection on the subterranean hallowed ground of Holborn and it’s a sobbing pity that it is but a distant (somewhat fuzzy) memory.

On this occasion I’ve used the Mixcloud & Soundcloud embedded player so take your pick, both websites are marvelous.

Bill Shakes 6 – Lemon Hare

As we step over the dying embers of summer and into cooler climes I thought I’d piece together some new Bill Shakes musical offerings that have had my considerably large hair standing upright. It’s a funky/re-edit type affair with not much mixing but hopefully a sympathetic flow that y’all enjoy.

By the way the Intro/Outro is a cheeky edit of an interview I heard on Radio 4. Babara Castle was a former Labour MP RIP from the 1960′s who introduced the Drink Driving law. Also check out ‘The Crown’ on BBC TOTP OMG Acronym overload!

Bill Shakes 5 – Odd Bod

Odd Bod is the latest Bill Shakes mix glued together for your aural pleasure and comprising of songs & sounds I’ve been listening to over the last month.

A few genres are included here, some oldies & newbies (nothing too hectic though) blended by overlaps rather than beat matching as I’m still awaiting my 1210′s reunion party and generally fighting with other beastly machines/gadgets (apologies for the slightly choppy volume control, especially to Marc Bolan RIP).

For those of you who have no idea who Bod was (i.e. anyone outside the UK) then please click here to be enlightened ‘papapa pom pom pom’ an integral part of my childhood and education in music…

Bill Shakes 4 – Wrench

This latest foray into the Bill Shakes musical realm may well be a ‘Marmite’ experience as I suspect it will either make you puke or cry (I’m obviously hoping for the latter…).

It’s a headphone-less fading mix which I did in a rather highly charged state (sober) so is comprised of a collection of emotive songs & sound bytes that move moi and I fully accept it might be too sugary for some.

Arbitrary BUY links added where possible.

oldravers 1 – ‘whatuon-whereufrom’

Very soon my darling vinyl will finally be winging its way from the UK  after a 5 year sabbatical  and while delving into the crates in an attempted cull, I thought it was high time to kick start the oldravers Facebook group again with a little mix of some golden oldies.  The mix title stems from a comical memory of the staple ‘rave hello’ and the  songs emanate from an era when every weekend I was at my happiest in a convoy of cars hurtling around the M25 or through London in search of the ultimate ‘rave’ experience where my endless love of all things electronic was born (I think it was a rave on Petticoat Lane in 1989 that baptized me).

The excitement and explosive energy of this time will perhaps not be repeated for many years , it was our punk, although one wonders how much ‘nostalgia’ and too many ‘late nights’ has blurred my memory…

I decided against trying to find BUY links for this post as the songs are so old, however for any die-hard spotters who wish to track them down I suggest your first port of call is discogs.com
