Odd Bod is the latest Bill Shakes mix glued together for your aural pleasure and comprising of songs & sounds I’ve been listening to over the last month.
A few genres are included here, some oldies & newbies (nothing too hectic though) blended by overlaps rather than beat matching as I’m still awaiting my 1210′s reunion party and generally fighting with other beastly machines/gadgets (apologies for the slightly choppy volume control, especially to Marc Bolan RIP).
For those of you who have no idea who Bod was (i.e. anyone outside the UK) then please click here to be enlightened ‘papapa pom pom pom’ an integral part of my childhood and education in music…

I hope you enjoy the overall sentiment and all feedback is welcome be it a huff or a puff (alternatively you can save the blowing for a House mix).
This latest foray into the Bill Shakes musical realm may well be a ‘Marmite’ experience as I suspect it will either make you puke or cry (I’m obviously hoping for the latter…).
It’s a headphone-less fading mix which I did in a rather highly charged state (sober) so is comprised of a collection of emotive songs & sound bytes that move moi and I fully accept it might be too sugary for some.

I recently found this mix buried under a digital stone. It was originally carved together for a background music in a chill out room at the MTV Europe Awards 2002 after party held in Barcelona where I now live & breath (although the Barcelona I remember from that night is entirely different to the now…).
It was a splendid night of fun with friends, all of us lording it up courtesy of MTV. I also played one of my better more uptempo sets (after Rob da Bank I seem to recall) and I wish I’d recorded the set to replace some some of the shockers I have hiding in the cassestte draw…
Musically it’s a mish mash of downtempo selections from 2002 with a few retro bits thrown in, I can’t remember the tracklist at all but it features the likes of David Axelrod, Aim, Ennio Morricone, dZihan & Kamien,Amalgamation of Soundz among others I’ve totally forgotten with the passing of time. Feel free to trainspot for me!

Very soon my darling vinyl will finally be winging its way from the UK after a 5 year sabbatical and while delving into the crates in an attempted cull, I thought it was high time to kick start the oldravers Facebook group again with a little mix of some golden oldies. The mix title stems from a comical memory of the staple ‘rave hello’ and the songs emanate from an era when every weekend I was at my happiest in a convoy of cars hurtling around the M25 or through London in search of the ultimate ‘rave’ experience where my endless love of all things electronic was born (I think it was a rave on Petticoat Lane in 1989 that baptized me).
The excitement and explosive energy of this time will perhaps not be repeated for many years , it was our punk, although one wonders how much ‘nostalgia’ and too many ‘late nights’ has blurred my memory…
I decided against trying to find BUY links for this post as the songs are so old, however for any die-hard spotters who wish to track them down I suggest your first port of call is discogs.com

As if by magic it’s number two in the hopefully infinite Bill Shakes Mix series and this week’s serving is a funkier (but still electronic) affair than its predecessor containing a blend of bassy treats for those who like it sassy (What am I talking about?). Apologies in advance if the sound quality is somewhat wanting on the deluxe stereophonic equipment I’m sure you own. My present recording / mixing set up is very much ‘work in progress’.
Anyway, excuses aside I hope you like it x
As always should you wish to purchase any of the tracks included then you can click on the arbitrarily selectedBUY links provided where possible (except for the Ping Pong sample which obviously didn’t make the iTunes Top 10..).

*By the way, for those of you who like Mr. Gil Scott Heron I can’t recommend his new album enough. Yes it’s short but incredibly heartfelt with it’s sympathetically modernized musical style and moving sound-bytes about his life..
